The church is situated at Edappally, which is around 8 KM north of Ernakaulam Town Railway station in Ernakulam to Thrissur national highway.

It is believed that the church was founded in year AD 593. This catholic church is a major pilgrim centre under the name of St. George, and people come from all over the country to pray to St. George to Edappally church.

A new beautiful and large church was constructed and consecrated in year 2015.
