The main Catholic Denominations in Kerala are
1. Syro Malabar Church
2. Latin Catholic Church
3. Syro Malankara Catholic Church
The Syro Malabar Church can be considered as the oldest Catholic Church in Kerala. It has its root to the coming of St.Thomas in Kodungalloor in AD. 52.
The Latin Catholic Church's establishement and grwoth was started after entry of Portuguese into Kerala by sea in 1498. Since then, the activites of Eurpoean missionaries helped to the growth of Latin Catholic Church.
The Syro-Malankara Catholic Church has its roots in the Antiochian Rite, and is a Major Archiepiscopal sui iuris Eastern Catholic Church in communion with the Roman Catholic Church, with historical links to the Syrian Church.
